On August 1, 2016, N.J. State Senator Robert Gordon (D), who represents the New Jersey Senate District that includes the Radburn community, introduced in the N.J State Senate a bill that would guarantee the democratic election of executive board trustees in all of New Jersey’s planned communities. “[I]t is unfair and runs contrary to American democratic values,” Sen. Gordon’s bill states, for communities such as Radburn “to be governed by trustees who are not democratically elected.” Sen. Gordon’s bill would guarantee self-government to over a million people throughout New Jersey. Gordon was joined by Senator Kevin O’Toole (R) who signed on to the bill as well .
Sen. Gordon’s bill specifies that all unit owners in planned communities will be deemed full voting members of the planned community, with the power, not only to nominate themselves, but actually to run in all association elections for trustee.
All trustees are to be elected in such free and fair elections.
